Settings: One Response Per Computer or Respondent

| Can I prevent multiple responses? Yes, the Collector Settings let you to determine how the link or Collector works! To prevent multiple responses per computer select: |
| No, I would like to allow only one response per computer |
This tutorial explains each setting found under the [Change Settings] button for the (Web Link) Collectors when "one response per computer" has been selected: No, I don't want to allow multiple responses from the same computer. |
| You choose: Will you allow multiple responses for the survey, Yes or No? (Click for Multiple Responses per computer) | Each Web Collector starts with a default setting of "one response per respondent." With this setting, the link opens the survey only one time on a given computer. This setting helps to prevent multiple response from the same respondent because the link can be used only one time on that computer. If you select to allow edits, the survey opens the last completed page with responses as explained below. | | | | On this page: | | - Allow Multiple Responses?
- Add a Thank You page?
- Add a redirect page upon survey completion?
- Save IP address with results?
Note: The Web Link Settings are stored with a cookie on the respondent's computer. | |
Set or stored with a cookie: What does this mean? These settings work under two conditions: - Respondents take the survey on the same computer and browser
- Cookies are enabled. The cookies must be saved - cookie-dependent!(Note: Some browser security settings do automatically delete cookies after every session.)

 | Allow Only One Response Per Computer | | | | Select No: allow only one response per computer.
| | Don't use the One Response Setting: | | | When respondents are sharing a computer or you need a data entry setting. Please select Yes, allow multiple responses per computer instead of the one response per computer setting when respondents will share a computer or you need data entry. | Sometimes it's possible to come back to edit responses: | | | Respondents cannot open the survey a second time to make edits with the one response per computer setting unless you select to allow edits (yes settings below). To allow respondents to come back to edit the survey later, select to allow edits. For this to work, the cookie storing the response must be stored in the browse. More on this | The link opens the same survey: | | | If you have already tested the survey on your computer, and you have the option set to No, allow only one response per computer, or no edits, the link opens the redirect page set for the survey instead of the survey when used a second time. | | | | | | When you select No, allow only one response per computer for the response setting, you then have the following options for allowing editing: - No: Selecting “No” prevents respondents from editing the survey once a page is submitted. This means, once the “Next” link is clicked, or the page is submitted, respondents will not be able to go backward in the survey to make edits. (Once respondents click [Next>>] to save the page they will not be able to return to previous pages. The Previous button will not be visible.)
- Yes: Selecting “Yes,” respondents can return to update their responses until they have completed the survey will give respondents the option of going back and editing or updating existing responses until the "Done" or "Submit" button is clicked. (Once the Done link has been clicked, they will not be able to open the survey again. Instead, the redirect page for the survey opens when the link is clicked a second time after the "Done" button has been clicked.)
- Yes: Selecting “Yes,” respondents can re-enter the survey at any time to update their responses gives respondents the ability to re-enter the survey at any time to update their responses. Clicking the link will open the survey and permit editing even after the survey has been submitted. (This setting allows the survey link to be accessed at any time for edits providing the link is accessed on the same computer from which the cookies have not been cleared.)
|
 | Add a Redirect Page upon Survey Completion? | | | The Survey Completion section is used to change the page respondents are directed to upon completion of the survey or exiting the survey. To set the redirect option, you will first need to open the Collector and click the [ Change Settings] button; then, scroll down the page until you see the Survey Completion option. *Professional feature - By Default, respondents are directed to our website, but the URL in this field may be changed to any website you would like by deleting the text in the box an adding a URL of your choice.
- Or you may select to have the survey window close after the “Submit” link has been clicked by selecting “Close Window”.
 |
 | Save IP Address in Results? | | | | Why would I Save the IP Address in my Results? Saving the IP address in your results allows you to track respondent information. - If you select “No,” the tracking information will not be collected. – Your results will be completely anonymous.
- If you select “Yes,” the tracking information will be stored in your results.
| | | If you originally select “Yes,” for this setting, you can decide later to change it to “No” and the results will then be anonymous. However, if you first choose “No,” it will not be possible to recover the IP or Tracking information. Absolutely NO tracking information is collected when you select "No," do not collect IP information. More about IP addresses
