How Collectors Work - Why Your Link is Not Working
Collector Settings and Restrictions
| The Collector Settings allow you to set what happens after respondents have taken the survey among other really great features! The Collector Settings and Restrictions allow you to set unique settings and restrictions, or limits, for each of the Collectors, or survey links you create. With these setting options, you determine how the link works or 'acts'. Simply, you determine if the link should allow respondents to take the survey more than once, which page opens when respondents finish the survey, and if your respondents need a password to access the survey. |
| Because we do not know which settings you'd like for the link, we use a default setting of "one response per respondent" for all new Web Link Collectors you create. With this setting, the link opens the survey only one time on a given computer. If you're testing the link and it is not opening the first page of the survey, this could by why! | | | Click to watch the Collector in action! |

| | | Question: My survey link worked when I first tested it, but it is not working now! | We get this question all the time and wanted to address it before you read further about Collector Settings and Restrictions. Almost always the survey link is working correctly. When the survey link opens the SurveyMonkey.com Thank You page - or landing page, it is working correctly! By default, the Collector setting for each link is set to 'allow only one response per computer.' Therefore, your response has already been recorded on your computer and the survey is opening to the last completed page - the redirect set for the link. |
Answer: If you have already tested the survey on your computer, and you have the option set to one response per computer the link opens the redirect page set for the survey instead of the actual survey when used a second time. In order to access the survey more than once from the same computer, select the multiple response option: | Yes, allow multiple responses per computer -- Recommended for kiosks or computer labs | | The settings and restrictions for Collectors are set to the default settings until you modify them: By default, the Collector is set to allow only one response per respondent [" No, allow only one response per computer."]. This means the survey redirect page or the Thank You page opens when the link is used a second time instead of the survey. | | Note: The settings and restrictions can be changed after you have sent your survey link or Collector. Please, see this help topic for bowser technical issues. | | If the link opens our Home Page (www.surveymonkey.com), it means that the entire link is not being clicked or used. Basically, this means the correct link has not been sent or that the link is breaking . |
| | | Collector Restrictions
From the Collector Restrictions page, you can configure the unique restrictions, or limits, for this link. Click here for detailed information about each restriction. Tips Each Collector collects results with independent settings and restrictions. You must format the Collector settings for each link you create. * To test the settings and restrictions, you will need to test the actual Collector link. The preview function does not open the Collector or apply the settings and restrictions.
Responses from multiple Collectors merge in your survey results. (All responses for a single survey are stored together, regardless of which Collector 'collects' the responses)
The results from each of the Collectors for a single survey are tabulated together in the results for that survey. If you would like to view the results for each Collector separately, you can use the Filter feature to filter by Collector and then view the results separately for each Collector. | | | | Cookie-Dependent | | | These settings work only when the cookies are saved on the respondent's computer. | | | | | Having technical problems with your survey?
