| 22. The District of Columbia has passed a “Labor Peace Act” in order to insure to protect its economic interests in major development projects. This act applies where the District has a substantial economic investment.
The act requires that project employers and labor organizations reach "Labor Peace" agreements. These agreements typically guarantee that no strikes or lock outs will occur and that employers will recognize labor organizations if they have a “majority showing”—usually through authorization cards.
Do you favor a “labor peace” bill in Montgomery County similar to one passed in the District of Columbia that requires employers who receive county economic benefits to reach agreements that construction and operations of the project will not be obstructed by strikes or other work stoppages?

To compensate for the lack of federal and state leadership in this area, the Montgomery County Commission on Health has created a workplace health and safety taskforce to conduct an initial assessment of the hazards facing workers employed in Montgomery County and present recommendations for action.
Do you believe Montgomery County government should actively promote occupational safety and health including the enactment and enforcement of workplace health and safety standards which exceed those approved by OSHA? |
